What is a Wind Mitigation?
The Wind Mitigation program was created by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation effective June 1st, 2002. Florida Law requires every insurance company to accept a standardized Wind Mitigation Form regardless of which insurance company homeowners are working with.
A Wind Mitigation Inspection basically checks to see how well your home should withstand a wind event.
* Every Wind Mitigation Form must be complete by a certified professional licensed by the State of Florida.
* The Wind Mitigation Form is required to include color photos to verify every wind mitigation device installed as part of the completed Wind Mitigation Certificate.
* The final document certifies the presence and proper installation of each and every wind mitigation device in the home.
* Florida Law requires insurance companies to provide discounts to qualifying applicants.
*Discounts can be as great as 60% in some cases. A wind mitigation inspection is typically the only way to receive these discounts.

The Wind Mitigation Inspection
Most Florida homes need a current wind mitigation certificate. The inspection is necessary to determine what credits apply to a home and can only be performed by a certified inspector. During a wind mitigation inspection, the inspector looks for key features and any added features to the home that may reduce the amount of damage your home may be subjected to in the event of a hurricane or strong windstorm. This inspection will on average take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on access. The current certificate is valid for 5 years.
